Thank you to everyone who has given their support through this process. We will not be appealing the court’s decision, but I remain committed to accountability and to ensuring every Tucsonan can have confidence that their vote will be counted.

I’ve often been villainized simply for running against an incumbent. At last night's DGT event, Kevin Dahl told me that I’m “not a Democrat” because I filed a lawsuit to protect disenfranchised voters and submitted a finance complaint.

To me, fighting for fairness, accountability, and making sure every eligible voter can cast a ballot isn’t anti-Democratic. That is exactly what being a Democrat is about; it’s what protecting democracy looks like.

Too often, women of color are villainized for holding systems accountable. Last night, I was also screamed at by an older white man and woman for these very actions. No one intervened, and later my attendance was described as “bad form.” I wish I could say this was a one-off, but I’ve faced this same hostility throughout all my campaigns—from my first race, to when I announced my candidacy for City Council at an LD20 meeting and was screamed at, to the attacks I continue to face now. This is what happens when brown women refuse to stay silent.

I will not apologize for demanding fairness. I am standing up because Ward 3 residents deserve a fair election where every voice is heard.

In July, 358 voters in Wards 3, 5, and 6 were mailed the wrong ballot because the Pima County Recorder’s Office sent the City incorrect voter data. Some of those voters live here in Ward 3 and may have been unable to vote for me.

My opponent, who received the WFP endorsement in his first campaign, has doubled down on his office hours from 9 to 1 despite countless constituents calling for change. Ward 3 needs a City Council that listens. I will make sure to be open and accessible to everyone, not just those who are free in the middle of the day.

These past few weeks have been filled with community, connection, and momentum. From house parties and putting signs up all over town to meeting former NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio at the Udall Dinner, I’m feeling energized by all the support for our people-powered campaign.

They feature art by Tucson’s own @dannymartinart, and a special guest: Paul Bunyan, the folklore giant who lives at Glenn and Stone and showed up in the 1969 cult classic Easy Rider.

I picked Paul because he stands for Tucson’s working-class spirit, neighborhood pride, and weird, wonderful charm. The land he stands on is up for sale, and like so much we love, his future is uncertain. He reminds me what we’re fighting to protect.

Yesterday we hit 200 qualifying donors and unlocked matched funds. It took time because most of our supporters are working people, just like me. We’re up against big donors and deep pockets, but every single contribution makes a difference.

I know what it’s like to have to choose between putting food on the table and keeping the lights on. No one should have to make that choice. But right now, our energy system is run by a for-profit monopoly that puts shareholders before people, and if that continues, things will only get worse.

A new independent study confirms it’s possible, but only if City leaders are ready and willing to take up the fight.

Happy May Day! Today marks the celebration of the many struggles, lives lost, and gains made by unions for the working class, such as the fight for the eight-hour work day. There is still so much to fight for—and the struggle continues locally, nationally, and across the world, demanding all of us to stand up for one another, with courage.

In TUSD, the substitute teachers have fought to be members of the teacher’s union @tucsoneducation —I am proud to be the first board member to voluntarily recognize substitutes as members of TEA and was honored to approve them joining the union after years of struggle. Unfortunately, I was notified by subs at the last board meeting that our Human Resource department was still not giving them a chance to bargain. I called out HR during the meeting and told them to give subs equal access to negotiate.

I look forward to working with unions represented in the city to fight for their rights to organize for better conditions and pay!

In Arizona, there are too many workers who have no representation and have to endure poor working conditions in order to keep their jobs. Many of those workers are immigrants. No one should have to choose between unsafe conditions and feeding their family.

Please consider celebrating this holiday by exercising your first amendment right to assemble! There is a protest and solidarity celebration happening today at Southside Presbyterian Church to advocate for immigrants and the rights of workers.
